Press release

Achim Mentzen develops “Living Sculpture / Transparency Project” as a public performance project.

Since 2026 Achim Mentzen has been combining his personal biography with a radically visible exploration of the human body, nudity, shame, the public and self-determination. At its centre is a seven-day continuous performance in which the artist makes his own body and his everyday life the material of a living sculpture.

The work examines how social expectations link nudity with shame and sexualisation. The sentence “The human body is not obscene” is a central starting point. The audience is not obliged to adopt any particular attitude; rather, looks, irritation, conversation and different reactions are observed and documented as possible parts of the artistic situation.

Living Sculpture is presented as art and performance, not as a sexual service. Agreed safety, consent, house and legal frameworks remain part of every concrete realisation.

The project deliberately relies on a clear link between name, person and work: Achim Mentzen – Living Sculpture / Transparency Project. Public performances, press work, cultural contacts, documentation and digital archiving are meant to make this connection searchable in the long term.

The artistic project

Living Sculpture uses the artist's own body as the material of a live performance. The project examines nudity, shame, social norms, visibility and bodily self-determination.

The human body is not obscene.

The work does not ask audiences to adopt one particular view. It places an openly presented adult human body into a defined artistic and social context and documents the reactions, conversations and questions that arise.

The seven-day performance

The performance is presented as art and is not a sexual service.

Core motif of the performance

Nudity, visibility
and 24/7 presence.

At the heart of “Living Sculpture” is the fully visible human body. The naked body is not hidden but becomes visible, tangible and, over seven days, a continuous part of the performance – 24 hours a day.

The project combines nudity, physical visibility, the public, shame, perception and self-determination in a real, time-limited performance.
